Telling the Truth is making sure that, while the essay is a narrative, it only includes true facts and events that actually happened. While telling the truth many seem easy to many people, there are many possible mistakes that could go happen and lead to an accidental lie. Since our memory changes depending on the amount of time that has pasted, it is easier to write truthfully if one is writing about a recent event. Writing about an event that happened a long time ago may lead to remembering parts of it wrong. Another way to convince the reader that the writer is telling the truth is to write in present tense because it shows that the event happened so recently that it can be described in enough detail to write in that tense. Also, when writing creative nonfiction, one must include all of the facts and details. Only revealing part of the facts can lead to misconceptions, another form of lying. To ensure that you are Telling the Truth, use the previous reminders to write in the most honest way possible.
